We all need a magical distraction.
It involves old magazines, a bowl of water, and packaging tape.
Are you holding onto your sanity as though you could lose it any minute? Same. Weirdly, little magical discoveries do the trick to stay in balance.
I’ve been reading The New Yorker. And let me tell ya, I’ve been on the struggle bus with the frequency of weekly issues. Heh. At least I can put the partial-reads into gratifying use.
I’ll show you. I suspect you’ll want to give this a try after you see the result. All you need are four things and the same amount of minutes.
Fill a bowl with water.
Gather some used / old magazines.
Grab a roll of thick, transparent packaging tape.
A plain piece of paper.
As you browse your magazine, identify an image or text that you’d like to pull out of the magazine. It’s ideal to find a piece that is the same width of your tape. You can be liberal with the length. Once you’ve identified the image/text, flatten the tape on top.
Next, you will peel the tape off gingerly so the selected image/text comes off the page along with the tape. This is where you’ll feel doubtful about the magic. Hang in there.
After you’ve captured your image/text, place the tape in a bowl of water and let it soak through for a few seconds. This is when you’ll decide you don’t believe in magic any more and yet, the best is to come;
Brace yourself for the next part. Pick up the tape from the bowl of water and use your fingers to slide off the bits of the magazine. There will come a sense of disbelief when the paper slips off the tape too easily and leaves… yes, the image on the tape!
Moreover, you’ll be impressed that the tape can stick back onto a piece of paper. Lay the tape down, stick side up. Once it’s dry, stick the tape onto the plain piece of paper like a sticker!
See how that discovery distracted you? Sanity still intact!
The little wins will build our resilience during these tumultuous times.
Have at it.

No one edits my writing. I’m no expert in language use and word order. I ask for your grace if you stumble across any errors or mistakes in my written pieces. The same goes for my voice recording as I may mispronounce some words. On both counts, consider it part of my art; an imperfect expression plucked from my heart and placed onto your screen. Consensual hugs.
Absolutely! The world always needs more magic ✨
🤗 love the magic!
